Review - Imogene Heap: Speak For Yourself
Imogene Heap

The second solo album from the singer of Frou Frou that sounds like...well Frou Frou. After capitalizing from the success of the Garden State soundtrack and several TV spots, Imogene Heap has delivered a competent set that showcases what she does best. Miss Heap has a sound unto herself on Speak For Yourself. The one caveat being that particular sound is repeated over and over throughout the disc. Written, performed and produced almost entirely by herself, Imogene seems a bit locked into a monochromatic sonic pallette. The songs survive however, with her unique vocal stylings as she has definitely distanced herself from any and all Tori Amos comparisons. Less programming and more acoustic/organic instrumentation could have made this disc much more interesting on the ears.
