Review - Various Artists: This Bird Has Flown - A 40th Anniversary Tribute to The Beatles' Rubber Soul

The person who came up with this idea either has some serious stones or is on some kind of career suicide mission. That's not to say that this Rubber Soul tribute is all bad- it isn't. Artists like Ben Harper, Mindy Smith, Nellie McKay, and Dar Williams offer up interesting takes on these Beatles' classics. I won't focus on the negative as it certainly can't be easy. Let's think about it-doing a tribute album instantly offers one up to scrutiny. Choosing to create a Beatles tribute heightens that scrutiny tenfold. Covering one of the most important albums in the history of contemporary music boggles the mind.
