Review - M. Ward: Post-War
M. Ward

Imagine Tom Waits out drinking and jamming with Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie with all three in good moods and you'll have an idea of what you're in for with M. Ward's Post-War. The Cd comes to life after a few listens and offers pleasant surprises to the curious. Ward's voice is an acquired taste but it doesn't take long to become hooked. The guitar work is deceptively interesting and earns merit alongside Ward's great but hard to classify songs. The recording of Post-War summons imagery of a dust bowl or Tin Pan Alley and reminds us that one can sound old without being dated. Post-War is a fun romp thru some familiar yet uncharted waters and will hold up for years to come.
