Review - Sonic Youth: Rather Ripped

Hell hasn't frozen over but Sonic Youth HAS released an album of catchy, concise songs devoid of most of the dissonance and cacophony that made them the poster children of underground music.

That fat has been trimmed on Rather Ripped with the integrity of the band's sound and legacy intact. Sonic Youth manages to keep their unique blend of chord progressions alive while tremoving some of the aural excess that may have had us scratching our heads in the past. If you're already a fan of the band, Rather Ripped won't hurt their cool indie status while maybe...just maybe, picking up some new devotees along the way.
