Review - Explosions In The Sky: All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone
Explosions In The Sky

This is a CD that's not meant for cruising with the top down. Although it does make for a perfect musical companion during a roadtrip. You just can't listen to a snippet of the Texas quartet's music and get the big picture. Explosions In The Sky are kings of the sprawling piece that will eventually suck you in while being oblivious to the listening experience. To be honest, I first sampled this CD on amazon.com-hearing 30 second segments per song and it didn't do anything for me. That just doesn't do this band any justice. One must put the music on and let it play. They can't be considered a jam band as there are no solos to speak of. Imagine an avant-garde alt band creating scores to imaginary films(although they did score Friday Night Lights) using structures often found in classical music. The payoff is gradual yet satsifying.
