Review - The Shins: Wincing The Night Away

When Natalie Portman's character in the film Garden State proclaimed that "The Shins will change your life" she may have made a backwards prophecy. The Shins' lives have probably changed more because of the overt pimping the film and soundtrack bestowed upon the band. Many eyes and ears in the music world have been anxiously awaiting the release of the latest Shins CD and most will not be disappointed. Wincing The Night Away is not a huge departure from their prior two releases but it's no retread either. Leader James Mercer seems to be channeling the Cure at their poppiest and The Beach Boys at their most experimental and has penned some more alternapop that leaves you wanting more.
