Review - Charlie Hunter Trio: Copperopolis

In his continuing effort to explore and expand his musical horizons, the 8-string guitar wizard, Charlie Hunter has released "Copperopolis" with his Trio, featuring John Ellis on sax and Derek Phillips on drums.

From those of you not familiar with what Charlie Hunter does, allow me to attempt an explanation. His custom made guitar sports 8 strings - 5 guitar and 3 bass. He plays both guitar and bass parts, at the same time, on the same instrument. I know! It's hard to believe. Even when you see it live, it's hard to comprehend.

Simply put, Charlie Hunter is one of the most talented and innovative musicians working today. He blends jazz, with rock and numerous other influences to create a truly original sound. On "Copperopolis," Hunter and friends rock out more than on previous efforts, but still maintain the depth that comes from the Jazz influences.
